Let's talk about PAIN MANAGEMENT (what your medical provider wants you to know)...

Somehow, the nation is now polarized over Acetaminophen, aka Tylenol. Sigh.

There are multiple non-pharmacological options to help you manage your general, run-of-the-mill pain. Hydration, heat, ice, elevation, compression, massage, showers, gentle stretching, & deep breathing exercises are all smart pain management strategies for various ailments. Also, how has your diet been? Have you been eating enough vitamins & minerals?

These are all go-to's at our house for pain. You would be surprised how effective they are. Often, you are correcting the source of the pain with these recommendations as opposed to masking the symptoms of pain. When my children were school-aged, they would come to me & say, "I have a headache or stomach-ache & YES, I have already had a glass of water!".

I am not going to speak directly into Acetaminophen as a potential cause of autism. There is always a "cost" to your body when you take any medication. When in clinic as a FNP, I would often encourage patient's to follow their Holy Spirit gut.

Recent news aside, Tylenol is generally considered appropriate for pain. NSAIDs like Ibuprofen or Aleve are considered anti-inflammatories. Tylenol is primarily metabolized through your liver; NSAIDs through your kidneys. Staying well hydrated is important when taking these medications. NSAIDs are also considered blood thinners. If you struggle with heavy menstrual periods, it is recommended you avoid NSAIDs as they will increase your bleeding. This is often a missed detail on NSAIDs such as Aleve have been marketed specifically for menstrual cramping. Make the advertising make sense!?!

Because the two are primarily metabolized in different ways in your body, two 500mg Tylenol & two 200mg IBU together are considered a safe and effective. This combination is frequently suggested after simple, invasive surgical procedures. Check with your medical provider.

It should go without saying but I will say it anyway, if you have unrelenting or uncontrolled pain, pain with other symptoms such as bleeding, shortness of breath, jaw pain, pain that radiates down your arm, nausea, feeling like something is really not right, seek medical care immediately!

(I will remind you every week, this is for informational purposes only. Needs vary from person to person. For goodness sake, use your own discretion & go see your provider!)

What I am loving...

I love  The Bible Recap (TBR) with Tara-Leigh Cobble. I mention this again here as next week starts the New Testament reading portion of the plan. If you'd like an accountability partner, I would be honored to come alongside you. If you would like to join our FREE community, we would love it! If you want to hammer it out on your own, go for it!!!

Check The Bible Recap out with the link. You can also access it through your phone on the Bible app under "plans". Please feel free to reach out if you need more details about TBR. I would be glad to answer any questions or help you find answers.

Reading the Bible through changed my life in ways I still can't understand & probably never will. I am so thankful for the Lord's faithfulness & patience with me! I would love for you to have that too if you don't already.

What I have found life-giving this week...

The work God is doing in & through Erika Kirk. May she know His sustaining "peace that passes understanding" at every moment. May He "bless & keep" both she & her children.

Forgiveness.

Increased Bible sales.

Overflowing churches.

To God Be the Glory!!

But GOD!

My flesh & my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart & my portion forever.

Psalms 73:26

Grace & Peace,

Dana
