New to the blog...

The Heart

Biblically speaking, the heart is the hub of our physical, mental, and spiritual life. Our heart defines and directs us. It is what steers our motivation and where we reveal our true nature. Our heart is center of all we are.

As evidenced by the fall, the human heart does not gravitate towards what is good, right, and holy. We see this explained in Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable – who can understand it?”.

Let's talk about easy nontoxic changes in your kitchen (what your medical provider wants you to know)...

We are hearing more and more about toxins in our food and in our household products. The influx of information can feel overwhelming. Here are a few simple, easy changes that won't break the bank. It is not an all inclusive list but a good start in the right direction. Let's talk about it!

  • Use a stainless steel sheet pan instead of aluminum foil as a cover when baking. (Be careful lifting this off as the steam can burn your hands.)

  • Baking soda in a paste to clean your sink and glass top stove. This will also scour your pots & pans.

  • Use stainless steel pots & pans.

  • Buy & eat less processed foods. Make things from scratch - less preservatives & toxins.

  • Alcohol in a spray bottle for disinfecting surfaces & cutting soap residue.

  • Use vinegar to clean hard water stains on glassware.

  • Vinegar and baking soda to clean your kitchen sink drain.

  • Trade out plastic cutting boards for wooden boards.

  • Use stainless & wooden cooking utensils, not plastic.

  • Glass only for food storage. Canning jars work well!

  • Clean fruit & veggies with a water and baking soda soak. 1 teaspoon of baking soda per 2 cups of cold water. About 96-99% of surface pesticide residue & dirt can be removed with a 12-15 minute soak.

  • Unbleached Parchment Paper

  • Fruit fly trap

  • A quick & easy way to evaluate what you are buying at the store: Yuka app

What I am loving...

The warmer weather! So much nicer for the daily walk!

I finished this book this week and listened to this sermon on Luke 12:22-34.

A good Lent resource: The podcast episodes are weekly on Fridays leading up to Easter. Here is the first episode in the series.

A February Sunset
A February Sunset

But GOD!

For this reason I kneel before the Father from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. I pray that he may grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with power in your inner being through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, and height and depth of God's love, and to know Christ's love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

With love,

Dana
