The Juniper & Oak Wellness Journal: Easter 2026

Issue No. 22, April 3, 2026

As the created, we reflect the Creator. We see this on display in the way our body functions.

The body has been designed for restoration. Our bones rebuild throughout our lifetime. Our hair regrows. Our skin replenishes. Our lungs move to heal themselves. Wounds heal. Disease processes can be reversed.

Through our body, God demonstrates he is a God of restoration.

Nowhere do we see his heart for restoration more than through the body of Jesus.

Isaiah 53:5 reminds us Jesus was “pierced” and “crushed” for our sins. Jesus tells us himself in Matthew 26:28, his blood “is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins”.

Throughout the Bible, restoration came through the shedding of blood. God covered Adam and Eve with the hide of an animal (Gen 3:21). God’s covenant with Abram required the sacrifice of “a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon” (Gen 15: 9). Hebrews 9: 22 tells us, “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”

In Leviticus 17:11 God explains, “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.”

Every function of your body requires blood in some way. Blood carries oxygen to the tissues and removes the toxic carbon dioxide. It defends and protects against infection. It heals wounds and can clot to stop unnecessary bleeding. It carries nourishment. Blood is a crucial component in keeping the body stable and functioning as designed. Heart attacks and some strokes come from the lack of blood flow. Death can be caused by significant loss of blood. Diseases are diagnosed through the evaluation one’s blood work. Donating blood can save someone’s life. As Leviticus states, “life… is in the blood”.

In our natural bodies, blood is precious. But it is just an echo of how Jesus’s blood, which was poured out for us, gives us life. Jesus is our true source of nourishment (John 6:35). Through his blood we are protected (Romans 6:23). With him our lives are held stable (John 16:33).

We receive life from the blood. We have been restored through the blood.

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace." Ephesians 1:7

But GOD!

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words. Luke 24:1-8
