Scarcity vs. Abundance
...The days leading up to Winter Storm Fern were a "storm" in their own right. Our local grocery stores were running completely out of many items, from cheese to chicken to bread to milk. Lines were wrapping around buildings. Entire shelving units were empty. People were stealing other people's loaded carts. Social Media was exploding with requests, updates, accusations, and excoriations. The fallen nature of man was on full display.
Let's talk about tips to avoid "cabin fever" &"hibernation weight" (what your medical provider wants you to know)...
Well here we are, deep in the throes of winter. How ya feeling?
The bitter cold, snow, and ice has driven us all inside this past week. We are eating more and moving less. Let's talk about it!
God made your body to move. He placed Adam in the garden to "work it and take care of it" (Genesis 2:15). We were created to work. When we do, we benefit. Here is a short list of how God designed your body to improve with movement.
Mental Clarity
Improved Mood
Better Memory
Increased Lung Capacity
More Efficient Heart
Consistent Bowel Movements
Stronger Bones
Increased Flexibility
Better Stability
Less Back and Joint Pain
More Energy and Stamina
You can ward off both "cabin fever" and "hibernation weight" with just a little effort and planning.
Here a few ways you can move your body while stuck inside:
Walk in place when on the phone
Dance while waiting on the microwave
Toe taps when watching TV
Leg lifts when waiting on water to boil
Heel lifts when drying your hair
Marching in place when brushing your teeth
Arm circles while waiting on commercials
Taking more trips to put away laundry
Making a few laps down your hallway
High knees while folding laundry
Squats while you are waiting for the water to heat
Backwards toe taps while washing your hands
Wall sits when watching TV
Other ideas for those more physically fit: running in place, knee lifts, jumping jacks, jumping in place, climbing the steps, hand-held weights.
What not to do:
Don't sit on your booty for hours on end - move every hour.
Don't over complicate it - just move.
Don't worry about looking silly!
Don't feel defeated if you miss a day - every day is a fresh start.
Don't grab a bite every time you think about it - try a little exercise first.
Don't do it alone - make it a family affair, enlist your friends to do it with you.
Don't forget to drink your water and eat your protein!
*Be smart! Start low and slow. (Any new physical exercise routines should be cleared by your medical provider first.)

What I am loving...
Possibly an unpopular opinion at this point but I really do love the snow! I love the slower pace. The quiet stillness. The family snow walks. The cozy socks. The blazing fire. The soup and cornbread. The fresh baked cookies.

But GOD!
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11
May all your winter days be warm and cozy,
Dana
