What is a Christ-centered Holistic Wellness for Women

Updated: Jul 30

In today's fast-paced world, women often juggle multiple roles. From career responsibilities to family obligations, the demands can be overwhelming. Amidst this chaos, Christ offers hope. Christ-centered holistic wellness focuses on the whole person as the created image of God, addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual health (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24). This approach is essential for women, as it empowers them to lead God-honoring balanced and fulfilling lives.

Christ-centered holistic wellness is not just about avoiding illness. It is about thriving in every aspect of life with the knowledge total wellness will never be achieved if we are not first centered on Christ. Jesus explains in John 10:10b, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." By understanding and operating out this perspective, women can take proactive steps toward achieving a healthier and more satisfying life that glorifies the Lord.

The Dimensions of Christ-centered Holistic Wellness

Christ-centered holistic wellness encompasses several dimensions:

  • Spiritual Wellness: This aspect is most important to our overall wellbeing. We are created by God, in his image. Any attempt for "wholeness" without Christ at the center will be in vain. "Apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5

  • Physical Wellness: This involves taking care of your body through proper nutrition, exercise, and sleep. "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." 1 Corinthians 6:9

  • Emotional Wellness: This dimension focuses on understanding and managing your emotions. It includes developing resilience and coping strategies through a Christ-centered Biblical approach. As Isaiah 26:3 notes, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you".

  • Social Wellness: Building and maintaining healthy relationships is an important component of overall wellness. We are called and created to love God and love each other. John 13:34-35 shares Jesus' instruction, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

  • Intellectual Wellness (pursuing the knowledge of God): Romans 12:2 admonishes us, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will." In 2 Corinthians 10: 5, Paul states, "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." For as we know, God is the source of all wisdom, "if any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God" (James 1:5).

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
