The Nature of a Woman

Eve, by God’s created design, was the “helper” to Adam, a complement if you will. God saw Adam lacked “a suitable helper”. (Genesis 2:20b). Eve was created to come alongside & make possible what couldn’t be done by Adam alone.
Women are by nature planners, nurturers, & teachers. We enrich the lives of others working diligently in all we do. We compassionately sacrifice in the service of others. We lead & delegate with resourcefulness & discernment. We are hard workers & good stewards of our time & resources. We are intentional & prepared.
These traits, while admirable, can at times work against us. Our ability to think critically & long-term can trigger overthinking & worry. We love our families with great compassion & sacrifice. The depth of our love can be a source of great fear & frustration.
There is a parallel between the worry, fear & anxiety we have for ourselves & those we love with a tendency to forget our place in the Kingdom is not secured by works. We mistakenly think if we teach our children more, if we lose a little weight, if we get a better job, if we just make it through this current crisis we can improve our health, start sleeping better or finally get some peace. We become helicopter moms or snowplow parents. We place all of our hopes & dreams (for ourselves and for those we love) on our own abilities. In a sense, we become our own gods; trusting ourselves and no other for all we think we need.
It is unrealistic to think we could ever feel “well” or “healthy” under these circumstances.
The good news is the “Good News”. As God’s children, nothing in our life is left to our own abilities. We are not expected to earn our salvation. Nor could we. We are not expected to be the perfect mothers who get it all right so our children will be okay. They are God’s children before they are ours.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the free gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:8-10
If you are a Christian*, you have been saved by free, unearnable grace gifted by God. Your children have (or will be) saved by free, unearnable grace gifted by God. You cannot do it for yourself. You cannot do it for your children.
“And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.” Luke 12:29-31
Our Father knows what we need. He knows what our loved ones need. He can be trusted to supply those needs. Our job is to “seek His Kingdom”. Our job is to teach, encourage, lead, & support others in “seeking His Kingdom”. When He takes first place, “these things will be given to you as well”.
