When our daughter, Cate, was 6 weeks old, my mom fell down a flight of stairs. Her fall resulted in surgery & hospitalization. I took my then 3 ½ year old son, Collin & Cate to visit her in the hospital. (No easy feat with a toddler & an infant.) My dad escorted us back to the car which was parked in the garage. Things went smoothly until it was time to exit the garage elevator. My dad and I exited pushing Cate in the stroller. Collin DID NOT!!! My dad started running to each floor trying to beat the opening of the doors. I started yelling instructions to Collin & to let any nice stranger who may come upon a lone 3 ½ year old boy joy riding in an elevator his mama was desperate to have him back. The situation lasted less than 2-3 minutes but was excruciating. Clearly, it left a mark as I am telling you about it now.
I was reminded of God’s provision & protection over Collin that day when reading the words of Jesus in John 10. Here, He tells us, “I am the good shepherd” who “lays down His life for the sheep” (John 10:14-15). Further on in the text Jesus says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.” (John 10: 27-29)
Sit in that for just a minute, as His sheep, “No one can snatch you from your Father’s hand”. He “is greater than all”.
It brings me to tears every time I read it.
I do not know what you are facing today but I do know most of it is isn’t easy. Whether you are a mama of littles, a mama of young adults, or a grandmother, know this, “no one can snatch you (or your babies) from the Father’s hands”.
Rest in the knowledge that He who “is greater than all” holds you and the one’s you love in His hands.
