This beauty turns 20 over this upcoming weekend. She is a force to be reckoned with in all the right ways. She is fiercely determined, loyal, kind, funny, smart, disciplined, and hardworking. She is a gift to all who know her.
I was in labor with Cate all throughout Valentine’s Day. She entered this world in the early, early morning hours of February 15th. I learned a pivotal lesson through her delivery which I still lean heavily on today and even share with all my patients.
Cate is my second born child. Because of this, my body knew what to do and once it was time, it was time. We had a wonderful OBGYN whom I trusted emphatically. She is everything you need in every labor and delivery situation. As I was delivering Cate, I felt the Holy Spirit say, “tell the doctor not to drop Cate”. I did not tell her. The nudging persisted but I stayed silent. I thought, “no way am I telling this powerhouse of a doctor how to do her job”. Sure enough, as Cate entered the world, the OBGYN very nearly dropped our baby girl. The doctor expected Cate’s umbilical cord to be of average length. It was not. The fact Cate was delivered without any serious complications can only be God. I am overwhelmed by his provision for her health. I also still shutter at the thought of what could have happened had she been dropped. I will never stop praising God for his protection over her safety despite my inability to speak up.
Your body is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19). It would be an oversight to believe the Holy Spirit will not speak into your health. When the Holy Spirit nudges, listen and obey, even when you feel under-qualified or over-worried. It is easy to assume medical professionals, social media influencers, or friends & family know what they are talking about. It is hard to go against the flow, the accepted standards or norms, or the trend. But, if your Holy Spirit “gut” is leading you elsewhere, listen and obey.
“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
John 16:12-13
