"Don't You Trust Me?"

ree

This little cutie turns 23 years old tomorrow!! Oh, how time has flown! Collin is our first born, the one who made me a mom. He is smart, kind, clever, strong, hardworking, disciplined, thoughtful, and creative among so many other things.

The Lord has taught me so many things through Collin over the past 23 years but one lesson stands out above all the rest. I often share it as an encouragement to new moms. In honor of Collin's 23rd birthday, I feel led to share it here.

When Collin was about 8 months-old we had some friends and family over to our home. His bedtime was during their visit. Being the “bedtime sergeant” I was, he went to bed. With the talking and laughter of our guests, I was not confident I could hear him if he cried out. It was one of the first times I was not 100% aware of his every move. Because of this, I wanted to check on him once everyone left and the house was quiet again. Just as my hand touched his bedroom doorknob, I felt the Lord say, “Don’t you trust me?”.

Before Collin was ours, he was God’s. He loves Collin more than we ever could and he can be trusted. I have clung to this reminder for both of our children every day since. Through every transition, every hurt, every disappointment, and every celebration God has been faithful. He will continue to be so.

At 23, Collin is just getting started. There is still so much for him to learn and experience. In so many ways, God’s encouragement to trust him with Collin at 8 months-old brings even more peace today.

Whether you are expecting your first child, managing middle school drama, supporting them through college and career selections or beyond, please know God has your baby. And he can be trusted.

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. Isaiah 12:2
