Let's talk about FLU season (what your medical provider wants you to know)...
Very rarely do you need an antibiotic when you are feeling snotty. Most often, a runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, headache, & fatigue are symptoms of a virus. Colds, COVID, & the flu are all viruses which means they have to run their course. An antibiotic WILL NOT help a virus. In fact, it is more likely to cause harm longterm as your body can build up a resistance to them. Too, antibiotics can cause GI upset & fatigue. They can also keep your birth control from working (Yikes!).
When would you need an antibiotic? In general, it takes the drainage about 10-14 days to progress from drainage, to bacteria, to infection.
What can you try instead? It is a "chicken noodle soup" type of time. Stay hydrated, get lots of rest, eat your fruits & veggies, & use a humidifier. Depending on your medical history & medications, some women can take an antihistamines, decongestant, acetaminophen, and/or NSAIDs. Others find local, raw honey, warm teas with lemon, & essential oils to be helpful. Give your self permission to slow down & rest!
How do you know if it is just allergies? Allergies will typically bother you more first thing in the morning & later in the day into evening. Also, pay attention to your allergen exposures to correlate symptoms.
(Please know this is for informational purposes only. Needs vary from person to person. For goodness sake, use your own discretion & go see your provider!)
What I am loving...
(Several of you have asked for podcast, sermons, & book recommendations. I will try to share resources I have found helpful here.)
A good friend shared the podcast Watermark Sunday Messages about a year ago. I have listened to their weekly messages almost every week since. They are reading thru the Bible together as a church family this year. Many messages will correlate to what you are reading if you are too!!!
What I have found life-giving this week...
Psalm 62: 5-8
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock & my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation & my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
But GOD!
God has worked in mighty ways this week at Juniper & Oak. He has been faithful to move in the hearts & minds of several precious ladies providing comfort & encouragement. I am humbled & grateful to be a part of the work He is doing.
"Truly he is my rock & my salvation...my refuge."
Grace & Peace,
Dana
