Let's talk about WALKING (what your medical provider wants you to know)...

For those of you who have seen me in clinic or know me well, you are probably wondering why it has taken me 5 issues to discuss the benefits of walking. Let's talk about it!

If you aren't already walking daily, start slow. Start with a 5-10 minute walk and slowly increase your times as you build agility & stamina. You can get your walking done all at one time or you can break it up into mini sessions. Get a good pair of supportive shoes to protect your joints & back.Walking on a treadmill or outside are both good options. (Be sure to check with your PCP before starting a walking program.)

Winter is coming. You want to create the habit now so as the days get darker & the air gets cooler you will already be in the habit. This will help you stay disciplined to continue getting your walks in as it becomes harder to do. Walking is an easy way to help prevent "hibernation" weight gain.  I recommend you take full advantage!

Here a few of the benefits of walking:

  • Improves your mood

  • Increases your creativity & problem solving

  • Repairs your brain

  • Helps you sleep better

  • Helps your gut work better

  • Allows you time to learn - listening to podcasts, sermons,

  • Relieves stress

  • Builds stronger bones

  • Strengthens your lung capacity

  • Improves blood flow

  • Strengthens your heart

  • Stabilizes blood sugar

  • Boosts energy

  • Decreases anxiety

  • Helps your nervous system to regulate

  • Moves you to worship

  • Keeps you stronger, longer

Say less, right!?!

Prove me wrong. Try walking every day for 30 days & tell me it is not a gift from God!

(As always, this is for informational purposes only. Needs vary from person to person. For goodness sake, use your own discretion & go see your provider for clearance prior to starting a walking program!)

****I am a Board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who is currently offering Biblical Health & Wellness Coaching. While I cannot "treat" you, I can absolutely help you customize a plan of action to help you make the health changes you would like to achieve.

What I have found life-giving this week...

Several months ago, I purchased a new Bible as the one I've been using for several years is running out of space for notes in the margins. It has been harder than I realized to make the transition! This week, I am making an effort to use my new Bible more in my writing & work. This is my "old" Bible & this is my "new" Bible. I love them both & appreciate the additional wisdom each one provides.

If you are like me & are ready for a new Bible but don't know where to start, I would be glad to help! Please reach out If you do not have a Bible!

But GOD!

As the rain & the snow come down from heaven, & do not return to it without watering the earth & making it bud & flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower & bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire & achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11

Grace & Peace,

Dana
