New to the Blog…

Here is a short excerpt from "Don't You Trust Me"…

This little cutie turns 23 years old tomorrow!! Oh, how time has flown! Collin is our first born, the one who made me a mom. He is smart, kind, clever, strong, hardworking, disciplined, thoughtful, and creative among so many other things.

The Lord has taught me so much through Collin over the past 23 years but one lesson stands out above all the rest. I often share it as an encouragement to new moms. In honor of Collin's 23rd birthday, I feel led to share…

Let's talk about to make smart food choices over the next few weeks (what your medical provider wants you to know)...

The next few weeks will have a plethora of eating opportunities. Food is how we celebrate. It is how we love on each other.  Much of our core memories are made in the kitchen or around the table. How can we enjoy all of this season’s offerings without derailing our health? Let’s talk about it!

Remind yourself of your identity in Christ. Visiting with extended family and loved ones we don’t necessary agree with can be distressing creating emotional eating desires. We must first “armor” up and align our hearts with Christ. You can read more about this here.

Make a plan. Balance your selections throughout the day. If you know you are going to want several different types of desserts but don’t really like rolls, skip the roll. If you don’t really care what you drink, stick with water. If you like the icing but could give or take the cupcake, just eat the icing.

Walk! (Y’all knew it would be here.) Take a 10 minute walk after every meal. Walk if you are bored. Dance to some Christmas music. Move your body! Make it a family affair.

Avoid mindless eating, whether it is grazing or taste-testing. Pay attention to what you are eating.

Stay well hydrated. Too often we associate hunger to what is actually thirst.

Eat when you are hungry. Stop when you are full.

Take your time. Eat seated without other distractions. No phones. No TVs. Be present. Chew your food well. All of this will help you to feel full but also satisfied.

Don’t forget the protein!

Give yourself grace and mercy. Don’t give in to the negative self-talk accusing you of failing. Move forward and don’t look back. Worry creates stress. Stress increases cortisol. Cortisol restricts weight loss. Worry reduces your ability to lose weight without even getting to enjoy the calories!

But GOD!

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. (Psalm 100)

May “grace and peace be yours in abundance” this Thanksgiving! (1 Peter 1:2)
